They provide an insight into the growth of an Institution with the gradual addition of new faculty, lab facilities and equipment. The development of Biology as a science can be traced in the advancements made by the faculty and their various collaborations with Institutions all over the world. The names of contributing scientists have been recorded along with their accomplishments in the form of fellowships, awards and publications.

The Reports begin with a note from the Director of the Institution which contains the highlights of the year and a brief description of their vision for the future. Most of the content of the Reports describe the ongoing research at the Institute. Every research group has a separate section dedicated to it. The later pages record the publications made, the talks and seminars given, and the honours received by the faculty at NCBS. The outreach programs and events catering to researchers at national and international levels are also made mention of.

In order to summarize the events of the year (or years) as described in the reports, extracts from the Director's notes have been taken. The academic activities, journals publications and awards, have not been made mention of in the short description as they are numerous. By skimming through the rest of the material, information regarding the addition of new faculty, building of laboratories or new equipment, and prominent collaborations with other institutions have been made note of. Any mention of a change in the administration heads or any other key positions can also be found in the description. The title of the report, the time period it covers and a brief description of all the highlights during that time has been given.

NCBS Annual reports are dated from 1992 - 2017. Please note: This is an active archive and will be updated with the publication of every new report.
<langmaterial><language langcode="eng">English</language></langmaterial></did><c id="aspace_46d19b6a048984c796310c1f38153d5e" level="subseries"><did><unittitle>Annual Reports</unittitle><unitid>Subseries 1</unitid><unitid type="aspace_uri">/repositories/2/archival_objects/1566</unitid><langmaterial><language langcode="eng">English</language></langmaterial></did><c id="aspace_55fd5c90a91db03adbc46ffc21ce32f9" level="file"><did><unittitle>Brochure</unittitle><unitid>NI004-1-1-1-1</unitid><unitid type="aspace_uri">/repositories/2/archival_objects/1567</unitid><unitdate datechar="creation" normal="1994/1995" type="bulk">1994-1995</unitdate>
15 page brochure on the work at NCBS and the construction for the new campus. A meetings and workshops office was developed to bring scientists as teachers to the students at NCBS, other Indian students and those in the Asian-African region. K. VijayRaghavan took over from O. Siddiqi as director of the institute in February 1997. NCBS consisted of ten research groups. The campus at UAS was designed by Raj Rewal. There were four streams of study. A note on the history and conception of NCBS is penned down by O. Siddiqi. About four students per program were selected out of the 3000 M.Sc. and the 2000 Ph.D. applicants. Villoo Morawala-Patell and Anindya Sinha were visiting fellows. The Golden Jubilee lecture series were held in collaboration with TIFR, Mumbai and financial support from the international Brain Research Organisation. A symposium titled 'From Molecular Structure to Development and Function of Organisms' was held. The centre had Journal Clubs which met every week. Academic Interactions between NCBS and MAHE were initiated. An NCBS Trust was in the process of being set up under Gayatri Saberwal. The computer facilities were expanded enormously. Science and research administration, core facilities, substantial new laboratory space as well as an endowments cell had been put into place. Pawan Pahwa was made head of administration and finance. Collaboration with St. John's Medical College had been happening since 2008 in order to build extensive research laboratories, explore joint teaching programs with medical colleagues, and develop gene editing and NGS platforms. Multiple post-doctoral fellowship schemes with partner institutions around the world, including the University of Cambridge in the UK, the Max Planck Institute in Germany, Institut Curie in France, and RIKEN in Japan were initiated. Mukund Thattai was head of academic activities and Savita Ayyar was head of the RDO. TIIS (TIFR's Integrated Information Systems), an in-house developed integrated ERP software solution for TIFR, and an uploading of GFR-19A for extramural funds on Public Financial Management System (PFMS), a web-based online software application, were implemented. NCBS received corpus donations from the Wildlife Conservation Trust, the Infosys Foundation and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw. A learning session titled "IPI Thematic Session on Philanthropy for Science, Research and Innovation" was held for philanthropists. ACRC had 200 plus strains of mice, more than 12 lines of rats, 12 lines of zebrafish and Xenopus laevis. CIFF was equipped with 22 state-of-the-art high-end microscopes and 10 flow cytometers. Computing facility was equipped with three high performance clusters and one centralized data storage system. The fly facility maintained approximately 16,000 different fly strains and also generated transgenic flies. Genomics facility included both Sanger sequencing and a Next Generation Genomics Facility (NGGF). Microfluidics and microfabrication facility was equipped for Su8 photolithography and PDMS fabrication technologies. The Archives project was expanded in Oct 2016. On December 12th, 2016 the 2nd NCBS Alumni Meeting was hosted as part of the NCBS@25 celebrations. NCBS had six field stations all over India. A new wildlife field station was set up the past year on the former site of the High-Energy Gamma Ray Observatory (HEGRO) at Pachmarhi, in Madhya Pradesh. A collaborative and interdisciplinary programme in Chemical Ecology between institutions in the North Eastern Region (NER) and partners in Bangalore - NCBS, IISc and UAS - was initiated.
